The Daily Telegraph, Pg 1. Steve Lewis and Sue Dunlevy. 12 May 2008.

160,000 elderly people have won a last-minute Budget reprieve with Kevin Rudd stepping in to guarantee $120 million in nursing home funds.

The decision means aged care facilities will be able to continue to offer Bingo, outings and other leisure activities to their elderly residents. Mr Rudd is said to have overturned an earlier decision by the Budget razor gang to halt 'top-up' payments to the aged care sector.
