Some tips Designer stationery business Corban & Blair has been operating for 20 years. Retailers are saying they've never had it so bad. After years of cheap credit and the spend-now-pay-later mentality of shoppers, suddenly they stopped buying. Even this year's winter sales have failed to bring out the once big-spenders from the seclusion of their homes.

The pain goes deeper than retailers feeling out of pocket. Their suppliers, manufacturers and all the other affiliated industries will be feeling some pain because people no longer have enough money or enough courage to shop.
